The Cymru Commentator Challenge

21 June 2020

Welsh football players in Euro 2020
School pupils will have the opportunity to develop their bilingual journalistic sports commentary skills.

To celebrate this summer of football, Cardiff University, Cardiff City FC Foundation and Cardiff Council have joined forces to launch an exclusive Cymru Commentator Challenge.

We’re inviting schools in Cardiff to work with pupils to create a 30-second piece of commentary of their favourite goal from this summer’s football.

Pupils will have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a commentator whilst developing their verbal and written communication skills in a fun and exciting way.

"We're delighted to be working with Cardiff City FC Foundation and Cardiff Council's Children’s University project, contributing our Welsh language digital educational resources for this pilot scheme. School pupils from across Cardiff have the opportunity to develop their bilingual journalistic sports commentary skills by competing in the ‘Cymru Commentator Challenge’ contest".

Andrew Weeks, Lecturer

ITV Journalist Beth Fisher and S4C’s Rhydian Bowen Phillips have set the challenge and will be selecting one Welsh and one English medium winner.

There are a host of fantastic prizes to be won including a framed Cardiff City FC shirt and a Cardiff City FC matchday experience for your school.

Watch the Beth Fisher introduce the competition and everything you need to apply.

Entries must be submitted no later than 25th June via secure email to Tom.Knight@cardiffcityfc.org.uk. A full list of the competition's Terms and Conditions can be found on the Cardiff City FC Foundation website.
