Midwifery Taster Day
21 April 2016
Libby Baraz Lecturer Midwifery at the School of Healthcare Sciences supported her colleagues at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CVUHB), Midwifery Taster Day on Saturday 9th April 2016 held at the Women’s Unit, University Hospital of Wales.
The ‘taster day’ was organised by the CVUHB midwifery team in response to the high demand of requests for ‘experience’ in a maternity setting received from the general public who may be considering undertaking to study on the three year BMid (Hons) Midwifery programme.
This event proved to be very popular with over 40 attendees, so much so, that the midwifery team have planned a further event on Saturday 24th September 2016. Bookings can be made via the UHW Midwifery Facebook page.
Libby commented, "It was a pleasure to be involved in the first midwifery taster day offered to members of the public interested in working within maternity services in the future. The enthusiasm and interest was phenomenal and I felt very proud to part of the wonderful profession.
The audience were given a virtual tour and interesting presentations from a variety of speakers. I was able to answer questions about entry requirements, the BMid (Hons) programme and Cardiff University and being a midwife in the NHS throughout the day. Attendees enjoyed networking during lunch and the event raised funds for improving the environment at the Midwife Led Unit at UHW".
