Party manifestos to be analysed ahead of Senedd elections
1 April 2021
Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre will hold an online event and publish an Election Series of reports looking at the financial implications of party manifesto commitments and the anticipated fiscal outlook for Wales.
Ahead of the Senedd election, the Wales Fiscal Analysis team will be presenting its analysis of the fiscal outlook for the next Senedd term and analysing the fiscal implications of some of the main manifesto commitments. The team will be joined by David Phillips, Associate Director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, who will explore options and policies for property taxes in Wales.
The event on April 27th 2021 will cover:
- The fiscal outlook over the next five years in the context of UK government spending plans.
- Funding pressures on public services spending over the next five years, including the impact of Covid-19.
- Analysis of the fiscal implications of the main manifesto commitments from the parties.
- Property tax: options and proposals for the next Senedd term.
Wales Fiscal Analysis will also be publishing a series of briefing reports in the run up to the election, covering the outlook for the Welsh budget and the choices facing the next Welsh government, the cost of recovery from Covid-19 on the NHS, and future funding pressures facing local authorities in Wales. The team will also be publishing commentary on the fiscal and economic implications of commitments made by parties during the election campaign.
Registration for the pre-election event is available here, with a warm welcome to all.
