Graduate forecasting award
21 August 2020
A postgraduate student from Cardiff University has been recognised by the International Institute of Forecasters (IIF) for her outstanding performance in a forecasting module on a graduate-level programme.
Jeanne de Lagarcie, who recently completed the MSc in Sustainable Supply Chain Management programme at Cardiff Business School, is the recipient of the IIF Award 2020 from Cardiff University as part of an initiative rewarding top-performing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The forecasting module, which is optional on the MSc Logistics and Operations Management and MSc Sustainable Supply Chain Management programmes is an IIF student award unit.
Written in Bookdown using R, Jeanne’s report on ‘Sales Forecasting for Store Replenishment’ chose a data set related to Walmart, analysed the data and visualised it, before producing forecasts and evaluating the accuracy of forecasting models.
Academic achievements
Jeanne will receive 100 US dollars, a Certificate of Achievement from the IIF, and one year’s free membership to the Institute.
The IIF is a non-profit organisation, founded in 1982, dedicated to developing and furthering the generation, distribution, and use of knowledge on forecasting.
Jeanne, who also studied her undergraduate BSc in Business Management (International Management) degree at Cardiff Business School, joined vessel inspection leaders Idwal in February 2020 for an internship as a Surveyor Management Co-ordinator.
With the COVID-19 pandemic enforcing UK-wide lockdown measures in March, Jeanne completed her internship remotely alongside her studies, before moving into a new role as an Operations Assistant in July.
