Seedcorn Bursary Funding 2019-2020 - call 2
29 July 2020
Congratulations to Dr Siân Morgan, a Research Associate working in both the Schools of Optometry and Vision Sciences and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, who has been successful in securing funding for her research project as part of the second call of the CITER Seedcorn bursary 2019-2020. This bursary will fund a project that aims to evaluate the effectiveness of corneal delivery by anti-viral-loaded contact lenses in the treatment of COVID-19.
The eye has been identified as a route by which SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can infect an individual. The aim of Siân’s project is to develop an ophthalmic administration mechanism in the form of drug-loaded hydrogel contact lenses for the delivery of anti-viral drugs against SARS-CoV-2, in a bid to develop protective technology. The work will involve engaging with staff from three schools in the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences; the Schools of Optometry and Vision Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Healthcare Sciences and, therefore, will serve as a platform for Siân to develop interdisciplinary links and intra-university collaborations.
Please note the CITER bursaries and awards for 2020-2021 are not available.
