Cardiff University remains the number one university in Wales, according to the latest rankings by The Complete University Guide 2021.
The Guide ranks UK universities nationally and in 70 different subject areas, using a range of different measures including student experience and academic performance.
Cardiff University is ranked 30th in the guide coming out top in Wales for five measures: Entry Standards, Research Quality, Student-Staff Ratio, Good Honours, and Degree Completion.
The University saw increases in the guide for education (rising 11 places to a rank of 34th), nursing (rising 9 places to a rank of 3rd), chemistry (rising 6 places to a rank of 20th), and sociology (rising 5 places to a rank of 25th).
Thirteen of the University’s subjects achieved top ten status with eight subjects making the top five, including occupational therapy (ranked 1st), Celtic studies (ranked 2nd), nursing, physiotherapy, and optometry, ophthalmology & orthoptics (all ranking 3rd), medical technology (ranked 4th), and communication & media studies, and dentistry (both ranking 5th).
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said: “I’m pleased that we’ve retained our status as the number one university in Wales. Sustained performance as well as improvements in several subject areas is testament to the commitment and expertise of our staff.
“However, while it’s important for us to understand how we fare in league tables, we do not allow ourselves to be driven by them.”
