Advanced research computing in collaboration with StackHPC
19 May 2020
A new collaboration between Cardiff University and StackHPC will ensure we continue to develop services to meet the evolving and diverse needs of the University research community.
StackHPC provide expertise into virtualisation containerised burst-out capabilities, and will work in partnership with Atos and ARCCA to enhance our existing High Performance Data Analytics (HPDA) platform, "Sparrow". This will then be used to support research into artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data opportunities.
During the next few weeks we will be working with StackHPC's technical team to review our current portfolio and look into optimising our current systems' effectiveness, which will include the deployment of a container-orchestration system (underpinned by OpenStack). These improved enhancements will not only enable researchers to capitalise on opportunities in relation to life sciences workflow optimisation, but also provide core infrastructure to support the EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctorial Training in AI and Machine Learning.
