Dr Julie Gwilliam wins ESLA ‘Leader in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion’ award
6 May 2020
The Enriching Student Life Awards are annual awards created to recognise staff and students who contribute to the Cardiff University experience.
The 2020 winners were announced on Thursday 30 April and we were thrilled to learn that Dr Julie Gwilliam from the Welsh School of Architecture won the ‘Leader in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion’ award.
Julie is the Dean of Postgraduate Studies for the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering and has been recognised for her work helping postgraduate students. The awarding body stated:
“In her work with postgraduate students Julie has addressed all issues. She has considered everyone with protected characteristics and how we can ensure an inclusive future in academia. We frequently discuss the marginalisation of certain communities and ways to ensure everyone feels safe, comfortable and valued in Cardiff University.”
The awards were announced via a virtual awards ceremony on social media with a nominated person from Cardiff SU celebrating the winners via live video announcements.
Julie said:
“It was a wonderfully positive surprise to be acknowledged in the ESLAs in this way and I am delighted to receive this award. It really has been an honour to work with so many wonderful students this year across the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering. I try to ensure that inclusiveness is at the core of my activities as the PG Dean for the college across all of my activities to support the PGT and PGR cohort.”
Congratulations to Julie and all the worthy winners from this year’s ESLA awards.
