CCI researcher wins in UK innovation contest
24 February 2016
Raida Al-Sayari, a doctoral student within the CCI, won the third place in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award 2016 from the Scientific Society for Saudi Students in the United Kingdom (SSSSUK) for her preparation of industrial catalysts.
Raida, a scholarship student from Najran University, prepared Cyclic Carbonate, which is one of the main substances in the preparation of many important industries, using carbon dioxide as an interactive substance and oxygen from the air rather than an oxidizing agent. In addition, the research utilised low-cost alkenes, as a prefix substance for interaction rather than the more expensive epoxide, which is typically used to prepare Cyclic Carbonate through a nano-meter industrial catalytic.
The award coincided with the ninth Saudi Students Conference in the United Kingdom, organized by the SSSSUK to develop scientific research and creative thinking among scholarship students in the country and contribute to the economy.
