18 September 2014
At a ceremony in Oxford earlier this month, long-standing member of the School of Law Professor Richard Lewis was awarded one of Oxford University’s most senior degrees, the Doctorate of Civil Law.
This prestigious award, which is reserved for leading academics in the world of law, requires publications which constitute “an original contribution to the advancement of knowledge of such substance and distinction as to give the candidate authoritative status in … legal learning".
Commenting on the award, Professor Richard Lewis said: “I was very pleased indeed to receive such recognition from my old university. It was a special family occasion, as I was accompanied by my wife and three of my children. Having attended their graduations in recent years, this time I was able to inflict a ceremony in Latin upon them.”
Professor Richard Lewis, who completed his undergraduate studies at Lincoln College, Oxford, has been a staff member at the Law School in Cardiff for 40 years. He was also the first recipient of an LLD from Cardiff University.
Richard is the author of the award-winning book, Structured Settlements: The Law And Practice and has published extensively in the areas of accident compensation, and public and private insurance.
