Birthday Rap for Nicanor Parra
11 November 2014
The School would like to thank the delegates and visitors from across the UK, Europe and Chile, who took part in the ‘International Anti-Conference Pro Parra‘. Their contribution to the 2 day International Anti-Conference Pro Parra was undeniably excellent. The conference inspired some great discussions on the work of anti-poet Nicanor Parra; one of the oldest living literature greats, famous for his influential unusual poetry style. Nicanor has on four occasions been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature and in 2011 Parra won the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s Cervantes Prize (the most important literary prize in the Spanish-speaking world). The panels were well received and Carlos Perez Villalobos’ documentary ‘Para Parra’ was excellent, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed this film translated by Dr Tilmann Altenberg.
