Celebrating Excellence commends School of Modern Languages
13 November 2015
The School of Modern Languages is currently celebrating success with two wins at the recent Celebrating Excellence Awards!
The Celebrating Excellence Awards are an opportunity for staff at the University to say ‘thank you’ to their colleagues who go above and beyond their roles and responsibilities. This year the School and its staff were nominated in an impressive six categories. In an awards dinner on 5 November, the Languages for All Team and Professor Claire Gorrara were announced as winners in their categories.
The Languages for All (LfA) team won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the University’s International Activities’ award while Professor Gorrara won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Leadership’ award.
LfA offers students across the University the opportunity to enrol on language classes free of charge alongside their chosen degree choice. Launched in September 2014, the scheme was predicted to attract 650 students to taught language courses but, due to unprecedented demand, provision was increased to 2515 places which were filled by students from a variety of disciplines and Schools across the University. Professor Gorrara who nominated the programme said, “LfA has brought enormous benefits to the new School of Modern Languages and our recruitment of students both at home and internationally. It has been an extraordinary benefit to the University as a whole and confirms Cardiff’s aspiration and commitment to a highly international profile.”
The School wishes both the LfA team and Professor Gorrara congratulations on their achievements!
