Professor Stuart Palmer to be appointed as Chair of University’s Council
Cardiff University is to appoint Professor Stuart Palmer, FREng to succeed John Jeans, CBE as chair of the University’s Council. Professor Palmer assumes his new role from January 2016.
Professor Palmer is a current member of the University’s Council and former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Warwick. In addition to his extensive academic achievements and distinctions he is a member of the HEFCE Financial Sustainability Strategy Group.
Cardiff University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said: “I am delighted Stuart has agreed to take on this vital role for the University. His knowledge and experience of higher education will be invaluable at this critical time as we build on our strategic direction.
“I would like to thank John Jeans for the outstanding contribution he has made during a period of immense progress and change at Cardiff University.”
Professor Palmer, who will hold the position for three years, is already familiar with Cardiff University having been appointed to Council in 2013.
The Council is the ultimate governing body of the University. It is responsible for the efficient management and conduct of the affairs of the University, including finances and property.
Professor Palmer said: “It has been an honour to serve Council and is a great privilege to be taking on the role of Chair of Council.
I look forward to working together to advance our ambition to position Cardiff among the top 100 universities in the world.”
