Cardiff PhD student's prize winning research

Danielle Merrikin has won the prize for best oral presentation at the recent Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) 8th Annual Bursary Seminar for PhD students, which was held in Manchester on January 29.
Danielle, who is supervised by Simon Pope and Ian Fallis, presented her inorganically themed PhD research entitled 'Element specific smart media for fast, low-cost radionuclide analysis'.
The aim of Danielle's work, which is funded by the NDA, is to help develop new methods for detecting low-level radioactive waste that is more economical, efficient and environmentally friendly. The project is co-supervised by the National Nuclear Laboratory and includes collaborators from the National Physical Laboratory.
This recent award follows Danielle's prior success in 2018 where she won the best poster prize for her research.
