Celebrating 30 years of UNCRC Wales
29 January 2020
On the 20th of November, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) celebrated their 30th Birthday with a fantastic day of workshops and networking.
At the end of November, Community Gateway’s student ambassador Andrea Drobna and Grange Pavilion Youth Forum’s Nirushan Sudarsan attended a networking event celebrating 30 years of the UNCRC in Wales. The all-day event held at the Cardiff Mercure Hotel was filled with opportunities to connect with other organizations that support young people and workshops discussing the fundamental rights of children and how we can make individuals more aware of these rights. Some of the key speakers included Mark Drakeford AM, the First Minister of Wales, Julie Morgan AM, Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, and Prof. Sally Holland, Children’s Commissioner for Wales.
Throughout the event, both Andrea and Nirushan introduced the Grange Pavilion Youth Forum and spoke about the launch of the new Grange Pavilion to individuals from multiple different organizations. Some of the organizations that we connected with were Play Wales, who raise awareness around young people’s need and right to play, along with TGP Cymru who aid vulnerable and marginalized children, young people and families in Wales.
Overall, it was a fantastic event to attend, and we were very grateful to be able to celebrate with all the other amazing organizations that were invited. We learned a lot about children’s rights and will make sure to remember everything that we learned when organising events for young people in Grangetown.
The event was a massive success, and we’re looking forward to attending UNCRC’s future events!
