Celebrating Welsh history and architecture

The amazing stories behind some of Wales’s buildings are being brought to life in a new television series, co-presented by a member of University staff.
Sara Huws, a Civic Engagement Officer in the University’s Libraries and Archives team, is one of two presenters on the new S4C series Waliau’n Siarad (Walls Talking).
The programme celebrates Welsh history and architecture through the stories of the people who lived in six of the country’s most notable buildings.
These include an ancient farmhouse in Ceredigion with links to the Age of the Princes: Mynachlog Fawr, which was built next door to the iconic Strata Florida abbey near Tregaron.
Sara said: “The great thing about Waliau’n Siarad was having the opportunity to have a nose in buildings which are normally closed to the public. It was also a fantastic opportunity to use documents from the University’s amazing Special Collections and Archives to bring Welsh history to life.
“It is so important to celebrate and take pride in these architectural treasures and make sure that their stories are never forgotten.”
Waliau’n Siarad is next broadcast on S4C on Sunday 19 January 2020 at 8pm. The series is available on Clic, iPlayer and other platforms.
