19 December 2019
Private, public and third sector organisations from across South Wales were welcomed to an industry event at the Data Science Academy recently.
Attendees from the likes of IBM, Confused.com, the Office for National Statistics, Welsh Water and the NHS Wales Informatics Service were able to hear about the new Cardiff University strategic initiative which aims to produce highly skilled graduates in a range of data-related Master’s degrees.
Led by the School of Computer Science and Informatics and the School of Mathematics, the initial offerings of the Data Science Academy (DSA) include MSc degrees in Data Science & Analytics, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence.
Dr Padraig Corcoran, Academic Director of the DSA said: “We were very pleased to welcome so many guests from a diverse range of companies to our first industry engagement event.
“It provided the opportunity to highlight the various ways in which businesses are able to engage with the Academy and its students, as it is important for our dynamic courses to be delivered in close collaboration with industry.
“We want employers to be at the heart of the Academy to help ensure that our graduates have the relevant and sought-after skills upon graduation.”
Peter Fullerton, Deputy Director at the Office for National Statistics Data Science Campus said: “I was really impressed by the number of industry partners at this event. It provided an excellent opportunity to share understanding of the new Academy, set up collaborations and see the fabulous learning environment offered by the new Turing Suite. I’m looking forward to working with the Academy to build on our strong partnership.”
