MA Scholarship

20 November 2019

The School of Welsh is offering an MA Scholarship for 2020 Entry.

The Scholarship will pay full fees to a full-time Home student (12 months), or partial fees for an International student, who is joining the Welsh and Celtic Studies program for the academic year 2020-21.

The MA in Welsh and Celtic Studies is an open and flexible program that allows students to tailor the content to their interests and the broad research specialisms of the academic staff of the School. It is also possible to study the degree through the medium of Welsh or English, or a combination of both.

Dr Siwan Rosser, director of the MA program said: "This is a challenging program that offers the opportunity to study specialist subjects, develop projects, and explore the relationship between your research interests and the demands of the world of work. The degree will give you the skills and confidence to contribute in a creative and practical way to the Welsh language and culture today.

"We are delighted to be able to offer an MA scholarship again this year and hope it will allow a bright individual to achieve their academic ambitions without worrying about being able to fund postgraduate study."

Dr Siwan Rosser Senior Lecturer and Director of Learning and Teaching

The opportunity is offered to study a range of subjects relating to Welsh and Celtic Studies including Welsh Literature through the ages; literary criticism; children's literature; sociolinguistics; and language policies and planning. The School's MA students also receive significant employability support, including a period of work experience, to further their professional development and understanding.

Sioned Martha Davies (a graduate of Welsh at Bangor University) was the recipient of the MA Scholarship in 2019. She said: “It’s likely that I wouldn’t have been able to afford to pursue a master’s degree without securing the scholarship. It has meant that I’m able to focus completely on my studies, live comfortably and enjoy city life as a new student in Cardiff.”

The scholarship deadline is 1 March 2020. Complete an online application or contact Dr Siwan Rosser to discuss - rossersm@cardiff.ac.uk / +44 (0) 29 2087 6287.
