Arbor Architects to lead a MArch II design unit that addresses the climate crisis
20 August 2019
From September 2019 architects Elly Deacon Smith and Matt Hayes of Arbor Architects will be leading Studio 1.5,° a MArch II unit that will focus on addressing the climate crisis.
The unit will challenge the status quo in architecture and explore solutions for an extreme coastal environment.
Elly said:
‘We’re extremely excited about running a studio at WSA which engages proactively with the climate emergency. Inaction, complacency and denial are no longer options in the face of an ecological crisis that will cause unprecedented social, political and ecological challenges. Responding to this crisis with the urgency required is perhaps the biggest challenge ever faced by humankind.
Any challenge however, is also an opportunity. We look forward to engaging some of the brightest and most creative young minds at WSA in exploring and developing solutions for our industry and our planet!'
The unit is part of Cardiff University’s Architectural Studies programme (MArch), a two-year programme that takes graduates to an advanced level of architectural design and provides a fully accredited route to becoming a professional architect in the UK.
