Kenneth Hamilton Plays Ronald Stevenson Volume 2
25 July 2019
The second volume of Kenneth Hamilton Plays Ronald Stevenson was recently released by Prima Facie records, following the outstanding international acclaim offered to Volume 1.
The new album has now entered the Classical Chart Top 50.
Released in 2016, Volume 1 attracted praise worldwide, and was chosen as CD of the Week by Klassik Heute in Germany. Jack Sullivan in the American Record Review described it as ‘a gorgeous recording and excellent performance’
Volume 2 features a collection of Celtic pieces, including ‘Keening Song for a Makar’, Stevenson’s complete Purcell transcriptions, and the first ever recording of the wonderfully witty ‘Threepenny Sonatina’, based on themes from Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera.
A former student, friend and colleague of Stevenson, Professor Hamilton says of the recording: “I’m completely committed to Stevenson’s music—it has genuine power, vitality and originality—and keen to make better known. I’m really delighted that that this distinctively Scottish music speaks to so many listeners internationally. ”
Professor Hamilton’s previous release, Preludes to Chopin, was also placed highly in the Classical Charts, attracting particular attention for the outstanding originality of its performance style.
