Welsh School of Architecture students exhibit their work at Llandaff Cathedral
19 July 2019
For the past two years, MArch1 students have been looking at the ways Llandaff Cathedral could widen the appeal of their musical expertise and facilities to reach all members of the community.
While this has been an exploration of ideas, the Dean has been supportive of the project, helping the students to develop an exciting 'live' brief for a new Llandaff Music Centre that has led to some fantastic, imaginative proposals.
Opening on the 20 June 2019 with a student-led community event, the ‘Music is Mission’ exhibition both showcases the student’s designs and reaches out to the public to engage with the project by giving community members the opportunity to post comments about the potential new developments.
Majd Alkadri, one of the students involved with the project said:
“This was a fantastic opportunity to work on a ‘live’ project brief and to explore the possibilities for the site. It was a great experience to attend a public consultation and to have direct interaction with the public who are the site’s potential users to explain our ideas.”
The Cathedral Chapter may now utilise students' project work and the exhibition to promote the project's potential and reach out to funders and other organisations in Cardiff. The exhibition will be open to the public until September 2019.
