Place-Based Citizen-Science for Wellbeing: Conceptual and practical understandings of ‘place’ for science and society

Place-Based Citizen Science (PBCS) is an emerging field. There is considerable interest in Ecology and Environmental Sciences and Social Sciences in place-based approaches. Place-based approaches are valuable for effective public engagement in ecological science, and supporting the longevity of citizen science activities with relevance to target participants.

Sustainable Places Research Institute and the School of Social Sciences is hosting a one-day conference, "Place-Based Citizen-Science for Wellbeing: Conceptual and practical understandings of ‘place’ for science and society". We invite practitioners and academics from NGOs/third sector, public bodies and universities to illustrate and provide a critical insight into the challenges of place-based citizen science, and to propose solutions to these questions.

We invite offers of papers from interdisciplinary networks. Our keynote speakers have expertise in international issues for Place Based Citizen Science. The format is intended to provide an in-depth, rich and focused discussion of issues.

This conference is supported by the British Ecological Society Citizen Science Special Interest Group, the Sustainable Places Research Institute, Cardiff University and University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpar.

Abstract submission

Please read the information about the call for papers. Offers of papers may be sent to sustainableplaces@cardiff.ac.uk. The closing date is 14 June 2019.

Abstracts should be no more than 500 words, and will be blind reviewed following the closing date. Presenters will be informed of the decision within two weeks of the closing date.
