School's concert composed to compliment ceramics exhibition
29 May 2015
The School of Music presented a concert of new music composed in response to an ambitious ceramics exhibition at National Museum Cardiff.
Fragile? showcased the beauty and diversity of contemporary ceramics practice in its widest sense. The exhibition, which ran until 4 October 2015, included key works from the Museum’s collections, shown alongside new commissioned installations.
A group of our postgraduate composition students created new music responding to and exploring the exhibition, making contact with artists and writing compositions inspired by contemporary ceramic techniques.
The composers involved were: Blair Boyd, John Cooney, Jordan Hirst, Julia E Howell, Martin Humphries, Carol J Jones, Richard McReynolds, and Daniel Ross. All are enrolled in the School’s MMus and PhD Composition programmes.
Their pieces were performed by Lisa Nelsen (flute) and Gwenllian Llyr (harp) as part of a programme of late night music at the Museum, Wales, Thursday 28 May.
