Music students in Netflix original series

Students from Cardiff University School of Music are featured in a recently released Netflix UK original series, Sex Education.
Off the Record, a group of performers from Cardiff University Operatic Society, were chosen to play the school choir in the new series. Ten students from the group took part, filming choir scenes and appearing as extras throughout the show.
The group spent three weeks recording in Caerleon, Penarth and Newport in the summer, performing Billy Ocean’s Love Really Hurts Without You and Rainbow’s Since You Been Gone.
Sex Education is a new coming-of-age comedy drama, following an awkward teen, Otis Thompson, who lives with his mother, a sex therapist.
Heather Fuller, President of the Operatic Society, said of their experience: “The experience of taking part in a show was new and exciting for all of us. We were thrilled to be working so closely with Jim Howick who plays the role of the music teacher, as well as seeing how a production like this is pieced together. The cast and crew were incredibly personable and made us feel very welcome.
“Hearing the end result had to be the biggest highlight for us! We all got together to watch the show and discovering that they cut and pasted scenes into different episodes from individual filming days – and it was especially strange seeing ourselves singing on TV!”
