18 September 2015
The School of Chemistry is very pleased to welcome a new member onto the academic staff. Professor Nigel Richards joins us as Chair of Biological Chemistry, moving from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, USA.
Professor Richards obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from The University of Cambridge. He spent 21 years at the University of Florida, before moving to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis to take up the position of Head of Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. He will take up his new position at Cardiff School of Chemistry on 1st October 2015.
Nigel’s research focuses on the field of enzymology, applying both experimental and theoretical approaches. His work has led to new understanding of the structure and mechanism of enzymes. His research in Biological Chemistry is at the interface of the disciplines of Chemistry and Biology, and it is significant for the development of new therapies to treat cancer and other diseases.
Professor Richards’ research has an internationally leading reputation, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him to Cardiff. He is just the most recent of a number of newly appointed academic staff as the School continues to grow; opening up new research opportunities and delivering enhanced student experience and excellence in teaching.
