Global exploration consultancy host “speed-dating” careers event
17 December 2018
International practice SRK Consulting organised a careers day for Cardiff University geology and exploration students in November.
Around 25 third year students from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences’ BSc Exploration and Resource Geology and BSc Geology programmes attended the careers event, which was organised by SRK’s Cardiff office. It is the second event of its type, the first of which was organised in 2017 by SRK employee and former School of Earth and Ocean Sciences graduate Dr Lucy Roberts.
Eight SRK employees - experts in areas from mining and exploration, to resources and environmental geology – attended the event and discussed students’ interests and career plans with them. Students were also able to talk about the work that SRK does and potential opportunities for graduates in exploration geology, resource geology, mining geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering/engineering geology, mineral economics and project management/leadership positions.
SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice providing focused advice and solutions to the earth and water resource industries. Established in 1974, SRK employs more than 1,400 professionals internationally in over 45 offices on 6 continents.
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has a close relationship with SRK Consulting and many graduates are employed there. We are grateful to SRK for contributing to this successful and well-received event. SRK staff also give external expert lectures on some modules and attend School seminars.
