6 December 2018
Professor Kenneth Hamilton, Head of the School of Music, will be a guest Professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest this month.
While there he will offer intensive masterclasses for students and teachers in the musicology and piano departments. These will explore the origins and development of piano performance-practice from 1830 to 1945, with particular focus on the interpretation of music by Chopin and Liszt.
Professor Hamilton is both a popular concert pianist and a musicologist. He has written monographs on Franz Liszt and the golden age of Romantic pianism, and recorded multiple albums including the recently released Preludes to Chopin.
A Hungarian edition of his award-winning book, After the Golden Age: Romantic Pianism and Modern Performance, is being published this month by Rózsavölgyi, with a book launch in Budapest on 18 December.
