International honour society installed at Cardiff Business School
23 April 2015
Cardiff Business School has been officially inducted in to the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) society, an international honour society which recognises excellence in business.
The opportunity to install a new Chapter of the prestigious Beta Gamma Sigma Society comes as a result of Cardiff Business School’s accreditation to the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The AACSB accreditation identifies the School as a member of the elite network of business schools from around the world.
This is the first Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in Wales and one of a limited number in the UK. Membership to Beta Gamma Sigma is restricted to the highest achieving students and distinguished long-serving faculty. For students it is a significant honour and is only awarded to the top 10% of Undergraduates and the top 20% of Postgraduates, providing them with an internationally recognised indicator of distinction. The Society also provides programs and benefits to assist in their professional development, growing their network and advancing their careers.
The School’s Chapter was officially installed in a short ceremony led by Dr Carlos Moslares Garcia of IQS Management School, Barcelona. During the ceremony 12 inaugural members were inducted including the Dean of Cardiff Business School, Professor Martin Kitchener and the Deputy Dean Professor Mohamed Naim. Alongside other senior faculty, four PhD students also received membership while additional members will be inducted in the coming weeks.
Professor Kitchener said: “Cardiff Business School is an internationally recognised school, noted for its research excellence, the strength of its teaching and the quality of its students. We stand alongside leading business schools worldwide. This is proved once more with the establishment of this new Chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma, a society for the very best business students and academics. It is a small and select group of institutions able to offer membership to this society.”
He continued: “Our students are some of the best and the brightest and membership to the society will further help to differentiate them within a competitive jobs market and give them additional professional exposure. Here at Cardiff we are committed to providing students with development and networking opportunities to complement their teaching and facilitate their success.”
The Beta Gamma Sigma Society was established in 1913 and has inducted more than 750,000 students into membership. It has over 500 Chapters and 30 Alumni Chapters around the world with members in more than 160 countries. It is committed to the values of honour and integrity, pursuit of wisdom, earnestness, and service.
