Sustainable Places researcher wins award for documentary

Catia Rebelo, an EU Marie Curie International Fellow based at Sustainable Places Research Institute, has won an award for her documentary “Sensed Place”.
Catia took part in the ART&TUR International Tourism Film Festival, a unique event in the international film scene that brings together academics, tourism professionals and filmmakers. The festival celebrates the best projects in the sector and offers them greater national and international visibility.
The 11th iteration of the Festival took place from 23 - 27 October 2018 in the city of Leiria, Portugal. Participants from across the world discussed tourism and cinema to combine conference panellists, video screenings and a ceremony to award the best films in the competition.
“Sensed Place” was awarded with the 2nd place in the category of Ethnography and Society.
Catia’s research project, “Place Ambassadors”, uses collaborative visual methods to explore the advantages and disadvantages of empowerment and increased local participation in tourism planning and participatory branding.
