Cancer scientists of the future
20 November 2018
The European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute is celebrating women in STEM and is helping to inspire the next generation of cancer researchers.
The Cancer Researchers of the Future event, November 28, brings together A-Level students from across Cardiff to learn about the career of a cancer researcher from world-leading female scientists.
The Wales Cancer Research Centre, Cancer Research UK and the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, as part of the Welsh Cancer Partnership, have joined together to host an event to showcase women in cancer research and share their work.
Dr Maddy Young, Cardiff University, said: “Celebrating women in research is incredibly important to us as an institute, and it’s a pleasure to be showcasing the work of female scientists whilst engaging the next generation with our work.
“Our scientists will share their work to raise awareness for cancer stem cell research and highlight the range of fields that cancer research has to offer.
“The Cancer Researchers of the Future event will have loads for students to do, including an Escape the Lab puzzle room, a tour of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, a 360 virtual reality experience, as well as exciting talks from researchers about their work.
“I’ll be giving a talk about my research, and scientists from the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute will show the students what it’s like to work in a laboratory as well as sharing their career journey.
“We hope that by giving students a chance to tour of laboratories, get involved in some fun science activities and hear about cutting-edge cancer research, we can help the scientists of the future realise their potential.”
