Physiotherapy students support half marathon
18 October 2018
Physiotherapy students from the School of Healthcare Sciences volunteered their time and skills at Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 7 October where 25,000 participants ran a 13 mile course.
A total of 85 Physiotherapy students, supervised by 6 members of staff, helped support the Cardiff half marathon to deliver post-race recovery massage. The recovery massage was delivered in the general marquee for the public, for Barnardos Charity and to those running for Cardiff University. A well appreciated 20 minute massage was received, free of charge, to approximately 450 runners of all abilities and backgrounds. Providing the students with real life experiences.
A number of current and former students also delivered pre race physiotherapy and soft tissue management to 32 elite Commonwealth athletes in the week leading up to the Half Marathon.
Tony Everett, Physiotherapy lecturer said ‘All 85 students and staff who attended gave their time, worked tirelessly through a very busy period and pulled together as a real team effort. They enjoyed the event and can reflect on the event as a positive learning experience and a wonderful opportunity to engage with the community of Cardiff and further afield!’
