Journalism at Cardiff tops the Russell Group table in National Student Survey

The results of the 2015 National Student Survey (NSS) show that the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies has come first in the Russell Group for overall satisfaction with Journalism.
Published annually, the NSS asks undergraduates to rate their University experience in areas including teaching, academic support and personal development.
The School achieved an overall satisfaction rating of 98%, with Journalism scoring 97% and Media Studies scoring 98%. Overall satisfaction has seen a 14% increase since the 2014 results and sees Journalism rated third in the sector.
Teaching in the School also had successful results, scoring a 97% satisfaction rating overall. Students agreed strongly with the following statements:
- Staff are good at explaining things (99%)
- Staff have made the subject interesting (96%)
- The criteria used in marking have been clear in advance (98%)
The School’s success was echoed in statements relating to satisfaction with the detail of comments on submitted work and efficiency of feedback.
Head of School, Professor Stuart Allan, says: “We are delighted to see this remarkable level of satisfaction from our students, which is welcome recognition of the School’s dedication to them. There is no room for complacency, however, as we strive to further enrich their experience with us.”
Cardiff University has recorded its highest level of overall student satisfaction. 90% of students were satisfied with their overall experience. The results put the University above both the Welsh (85%) and sector-wide (86%) average for overall satisfaction. You can find out more on the University’s central news pages.
