Success for Midwifery team

Cardiff University, School of Healthcare Sciences’ Midwifery Team have won the award for best team at the recent maternity and midwifery festival.
The Wales and South West Maternity and Midwifery Festival 2018 took place on Thursday 20 September at Cardiff City Stadium. The event was held as part of the Maternity and Midwifery Forum; a professional festival, with leadership speakers and exhibitions, highlighting developments in maternity and midwifery across the UK and globally.
The new Maternity and Midwifery Awards recognise outstanding achievement and commitment by midwifery and maternity staff across the UK. There were 5 categories in total; Midwife Achievement Award, Team Award, Innovation Award, Student Midwife award and Maternity Management Award.
The School of Healthcare Sciences’ Midwifery Team won the best team award which was an extremely competitive category. The team were presented with a trophy and certificate from Professor Jean White CBE MStJ, Chief Nursing Officer for Wales.
Judges were looking for teams who:
- Demonstrated excellent inter-professional working
- Transformed services
- Demonstrated Innovation
The Midwifery Team were commended for their commitment to excellent care for women & families; interprofessional education, particularly with medical students; developing resilience and art of midwifery through the undergraduate programme; increasing their global outreach and student mobility, as well as achieving outstanding student evaluation.
Grace Thomas, Lead Midwife for Education and Professional Head for Midwifery said ‘We are a small, dedicated and inspirational team who work closely with the students and our partners in clinical practice to develop future midwives who are safe, compassionate and caring.'
