Dr Louis Luk obtained his BSc in Chemistry and Microbiology & Immunology from the University of British Columbia. He also obtained his PhD from the University of British Columbia, and then took up a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Chicago. He moved to a postdoctoral position at Cardiff Chemistry in 2012 and he has now been appointed as a Research Fellow in 2015.
His research is primarily interested in understanding how enzymes perform their natural functions. Some of his more specific research interests are:
- Elucidating the role of post-translational modifications on enzyme catalysis
- Probing the role of protein dynamics in protein functions
- Reprogramming natural product biosynthetic pathways
His areas of expertise include molecular cloning, enzyme preparation, peptide synthesis and unnatural amino acid incorporation.
Dr Louis Luk is just the most recent of a number of newly appointed academic staff as the School continues to grow; opening up new research opportunities and delivering enhanced student experience and excellence in teaching.
