360 Institute Tour
23 May 2018
You can now explore the laboratory of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, following a tumour sample as it is prepared to be used in the Institute’s cutting-edge cancer research.
Dr Richard Clarkson can now give you a guided tour of the Institute in a new 360 video, allowing you to take a look around Cardiff University’s cancer stem cell research laboratories.
The immersive video gives viewers the opportunity to see the state-of-the-art technology based in the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, visiting the Institute’s main laboratory, cell culture room, microscopy suite and FACS room.
Dr Richard Clarkson, Researcher and Reader at Cardiff University’s European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, said: “We work closely with the University Hospital of Wales to receive tumour samples for our research, allowing us to process and use human cancer cells in our work.
“Within hours of the tumour being removed from the patient, the tumour is in our lab.
“By using human tumours, we can examine the behaviours of the cancer cells and test potential new therapies that could target cancer stem cells, to help prevent cancer development, growth and the spread of cancers throughout the body.
“Our new 360 tour allows you to follow what happens after we receive a tumour sample, observing each step of the process, as it is used in our world-leading cancer stem cell research.
“You will get to see how we break down tumours into individual cells, so that we can target cancer stem cells, to analyse the way they drive cancer development and then test novel therapeutics.”
