NHS 70th fun run
16 May 2018
Cardiff University Healthcare Sciences students, staff and alumni will be running the NHS 70th Anniversary Fun Run on Sunday 20th May 2018.
The fun run will mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the NHS, with the aim of raising money for local wards, departments, clinics and hospital research. Organised by the Cardiff and Vale Health charity and Light Up Events, the fun run will be taking place in Cardiff Bay.
Staff and Adult Nursing Students from Cardiff University, School of Healthcare Sciences have been hard at work training for both the 5k and 10k runs that will take place at the event. With an expected 70 people running with the group next Sunday, Cardiff University School of Healthcare Sciences is set to raise a substantial amount of money for the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
Students and staff have been holding group training sessions to prepare for the day. These have included the Cardiff Park Run; a weekly 5k run held in Bute Park every Saturday morning.
Ricky Hellyar and Claire Job, who are adult nursing lecturers at Cardiff University, commented that they thought the fun run was ‘a great way to celebrate Nursing and the NHS and to bring students, staff and alumni together to do something fun and really positive.’
One of the students that will be running alongside Ricky and Claire on the day said, ‘I'm in the last year of my degree and think that this is a nice way to finish the year off’and another added ‘It will be great fun and help me get fit’.
The group of staff and students will be running the NHS 70th Anniversary fun run wearing purple t-shirts with ‘#TeamCardiffNursing’ printed on the front and would love as much support as possible.
