Professionals dive into the world of swim-lanes at breakfast event
3 May 2018
Members of Cardiff University’s Project Management Alumni and representatives from top Welsh businesses took time out of their morning to learn about business process mapping and analysis.
The early start was compensated by a breakfast of pastries, fruit and coffee and was swiftly followed by a networking ice-breaker activity. This involved teams making and flying paper planes and examining the processes which underpin the expert manufacture of winged crafts in coloured card!
Afterwards, participants heard from guest speaker Richard Rose as he introduced the techniques and applications of business process mapping and analysis. The world of process mapping symbols and swim lanes was made clear as Richard related the theory to ordinary real-world examples and facilitated group activities designed to help participants identify waste within simple everyday tasks, such as making breakfast. The session was rounded off with some great questions, including how the business process mapping method integrates with systems such as Lean and PRINCE2®. One lucky winner also came away with a copy of The Basics of Process Mapping, 2nd Edition (2011) by Robert Damelio.
Richard has worked with Cardiff University’s CPD Unit for many years, delivering a range of project management courses including the world-renowned PRINCE2® and MSP® accreditations.
