Cardiff University alumna announced as one the 30 future UK radio champions
4 June 2015
The ReelWorld Radio Academy announced alumna Rebecca Smith as one of the UK's next generation in the radio industry at the end of last year.
Rebecca, a BA Journalism, Film and Media alumna from the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, has been recognised as one of the '30 Under 30' in radio. Now in its fourth year, the national competition celebrates the most talented and promising young professionals of radio spanning all areas of the industry.
"I am honoured to be on the shortlist of the UK's young professionals in radio. I am still quite new to the industry, so being in charge of 30 minutes of Radio 4 at this stage is very exciting, as is getting to choose what goes out on air and hearing your name being credited." Rebecca said.
After starting off as a runner on the BBC News Channel and a Broadcast Assistant at BBC Radio 4, Rebecca is now a producer on 'The World at One' and PM. Her future aspirations are to continue her role, working in editing and reporting and covering different events from the elections in Germany to EU meetings in Brussels.
Rebecca continues: "When you're working for the radio, every day is different and you never know what story might happen whilst you are on air. Cardiff University has prepared me well to go straight into my role at the BBC and I enjoy every minute of it."
