Crime and Security Research Institute Welcomes new Co-director

The Crime and Security Research Institute has announced the appointment of Professor Simon C Moore, Director of the Violence Research Group, as its new Co-director.
Simon will replace Professor Jonathan Shepherd, who announced his retirement at the end of last year.
Professor Moore’s work is supported by UK and international funding from both research councils and the National Institute for Health Research. He leads a large ESRC, MRC and ARUK funded data linkage project looking to link health data with other source of data to better understand pathways into harm, and collaborates on a Welsh Foundation funded Airbus Defence and Space project developing surveillance technology to protect our communities from harm.
Professor Moore was publicly appointed by the Welsh Minister for Health as an advisor to the Welsh Government on matters relating to alcohol misuse and substance abuse, and chaired the advisory panel (APOSM) recommending that minimum alcohol unit pricing be implemented in Wales. He led the authorship of the report to the Welsh Government, and has also contributed to reports on tramadol dependency and substance misuse in the elderly, and to the Welsh Government's Public Health White paper (2014).
