23 December 2014
Cardiff's School of Planning and Geography has been ranked 9th in the UK in the latest Research Excellence Framework, with 85% of its research assessed as world leading or internationally excellent.
Professor Paul Milbourne, Head of School, said: "Our School has been consistently ranked in the top 10 for research excellence since the very first Research Assessment Exercise in 1992, and the results provide us with a strong foundation to continue to develop and extend the scope and breadth of our research."
The results conclude a successful year for the School, in which it has achieved 100% satisfaction in the National Student Satisfaction Survey and was ranked second for planning and third for geography in UK in the Times Good University Guide.
More widely, Cardiff University has climbed 17 places to be the 5th best university in the UK in terms of research excellence, making it the fastest rising amongst the leading research universities of the Russell Group.
Professor Paul Milbourne said: "The School of Planning and Geography continues to enhance its national and international reputation in terms of research and teaching. We are ranked top 100 in the world for geography and number one in the UK for student satisfaction. We are also continuing with our exciting growth strategy, with eight new staff appointed this year and a further seven positions due to be advertised in early 2015."
