On Tuesday 16 January CITER visited St Phillip Evans R.C Primary School in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff for a morning session to deliver the bones and organs outreach activity.

Throughout the morning sixty children in year four took part in this activity learning about the bodies' bones and organs and a "guess how big" session in relation to a variety of body parts. During the "guess how big" session children were given a selection of fruit and vegetables to demonstrate the weight of a human brain.

Overall it was a fun and enjoyable morning and a great way to engage school children to science. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves with some fantastic feedback from the class teacher:

"the activities were age appropriate and clearly had a positive effect on the children's knowledge of the body......thank you for a lively, exciting lesson which the children enjoyed very much and learned from".

The workshop was delivered by Dr James Bell from the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences and Jake Bowd from the School of Engineering. The success of CITER school workshops relies entirely on our brilliant volunteers; if you are interested in taking part please contact the CITER office at citer@cardiff.ac.uk, our calendar for 2018 is very busy - Be Enaged!
