Early career wins
22 December 2017
Dr Daniel Eyers and Dr Qinyun Li from Cardiff Business School’s Logistics and Operations Management section have been awarded early career researcher fellowship opportunities with Panalpina and Hilti.
The projects, co-funded by Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the host companies, provide secondment opportunities to industry in areas aligned to the recently announced Industrial Strategy.
Aligned to new Industrial Strategy
Dr Eyers will work with Panalpina and companies within its supply chain to better understand how the adoption of Additive Manufacturing/3D printing for spare parts production affects both operations and supply chain management.
Dr Eyers said: “The ESRC fellowship provides me with an excellent opportunity to undertake research directly aligned to the new Industrial Strategy...”
Working with Hilti Global Statistical Forecasting team, Dr. Li’s project will significantly elevate the company’s forecasting performance. Over time, the project’s outcomes will translate into economic benefits in inventory control.
Both projects have been developed with the support of the Panalpina Centre for Manufacturing and Logistics Research at Cardiff University.
The Centre is a joint industry-University initiative that aims to achieve world-class research with impact in the fields of logistics and manufacturing management. It bridges the gap between theory and practice in these areas for the benefit of the economy, environment, and society.
