Working alongside your studies not only tops up your budget, it’s also a great way to gain new skills and meet people.

JobShop

Jobshop is a free student employment service run by the Students’ Union. Register with JobShop when you arrive to find paid part-time work in and around the city.

Throughout the year, we recruit students for a range of paid roles, from supporting your peers as a well-being champion to welcoming prospective students to Cardiff as a student ambassador. Look out for recruitment opportunities in Student News, your weekly news, jobs, and opportunities email.

Student Futures

You may only be starting your university journey, but it's never too early to think about your future. Our Student Futures team are here to support you:

• chat with a school-specific careers adviser to explore your career options
• attend careers fairs and events
• search for local jobs and work experience opportunities on our JobsBoard
• discuss opportunities to work, study, or volunteer abroad.

Our Student Futures hub is based on the first floor of the Centre for Student Life. Drop-in for careers advice and ideas on improving your CV.

Your Student Futures Account

Once you have completed online enrolment, you’ll be able to set up your Student Futures Account.

Use your student log in to access and tailor your personal careers profile:

• search and apply for jobs, work experience and volunteering opportunities
• book events, workshops and appointments with a career advisor.

International students: working part-time in the UK

Certain employment restrictions apply depending on the type of visa you have. The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) website outlines everything you need to know about working in the UK, including:

• what kind of work you can do
• maximum weekly working hours
• going on work placements and internships
• working when you're no longer studying.
