Proof of identity documentation

You'll need to provide proof of your identity before you can collect your student ID card.
Home and EU national students (with EUSS settled or pre-settled status)
If you've not been able to upload your identity documents to confirm your right to study (RTS) on SIMS, then you will need to bring one of the following with you when you collect your student ID card:
- original UK passport
- original UK birth certificate
- original UK naturalisation certificate
- original UK right of abode certificate
- original Irish passport
- original EU passport and share code (for EU students with pre-settled/settled status)
UK home students: If you do not have one of the above, you may be given a student ID card for a temporary period if you can only provide two of the following (one of which must contain your address, confirmed during enrolment, as held on the university student record):
- UK photographic driving licence
- tenancy agreement or mortgage documentation
- debit card (only at the student ID card collection venue)
- current credit card or charge card (only at the student ID card collection venue)
- bank statement
- bank or building society book (only at the student ID card collection venue)
- full driving licence (without photo)
- utility bill
- marriage certificate
- Home Office documents
- Inland Revenue documents
- work permit
- National Insurance card
- correspondence from the Student Loans Company or local authority.
If you have been issued a temporary student ID card, you will still be required to provide your passport or birth certificate within eight weeks of collecting your student ID card.
International students (in the EU/EEA)
You must bring the following with you to collect your student ID card:
- original passport
- share code – obtained from GOV.UK
- proof of when you entered the UK (boarding pass, e-ticket, flight details)
If you don't have these documents with you when you come to collect your student ID card we won't be able to issue it. You should only attend university lectures/seminars/classes if you have collected your student ID card.
International students (outside of the EU/EEA)
If you've already uploaded your identity documents to confirm your right to study (RTS) on SIMS (you have provided a share code for your E-Visa) you'll need to bring these documents with you when you collect your student ID card:
- original passport
- ATAS certificate (if applicable)
- visa decision email
- evidence of entry to the UK
If you have not uploaded your identity documents to confirm your right to study (RTS) on SIMS you'll need to bring these documents with you when you collect your student ID card:
- original passport
- stamped entry clearance vignette in passport (where applicable) or evidence of entry to the UK
- valid visa - Biometric Residence Permit - BRP (some students may be collecting this from Cardiff University)
- ATAS Certificate, if applicable (you will find details of this in your offer letter)
If you don't have these documents with you when you come to collect your student ID card we won't be able to issue it. You should only attend university lectures/seminars/classes if you have collected your student ID card.
