Applicant day
Most of the undergraduate students we welcome to the School of Music will be invited to an applicant day at the school, typically held from November to March.
The applicant day is an opportunity for students to see the school in person, meet our academic staff, and get a feel for what it’s like to study with us.
Applicants will be able to attend talks and workshops introducing them to the school and giving a taster of the sorts of things they may study as a student here.
The day is also a chance to chat with some of the School of Music’s current students to ask them about their own experiences of life in the school, and of Cardiff.
As part of the applicant day, students will have a 15-minute one-to-one meeting with a member of academic staff. This is a chance for applicants to get to know us and chat about their musical interests.
During these meetings, applicants will be invited to either perform a short piece of music on their primary instrument or voice, or—for those whose interests lie more in composition or musicology—to bring along a composition for discussion, or suggest a musical work or topic about which to have an informal chat.
These meetings aren’t formal auditions or interviews, but an opportunity for applicants to talk in more detail about their musical interests and show their abilities.
Applicant days also allow visitors to get to know the school, with an opportunity to have a tour of the building to find out more about the world-class facilities available to support their studies.
