Outside China, Chinese is spoken by large communities around the world, from Singapore to London to Vancouver.

Our courses

Please note: If you choose to study our Modern Languages (BA) programme, Chinese cannot be studied with another language.

If you choose to study our Chinese (BA) programme, you’ll study in Cardiff for the first 2 years of your degree before heading abroad for your third year which you’ll spend at one of our partner institutions in China. At the end of your year abroad, you’ll head back to Cardiff for your final year of study.

Alternatively, you could choose our Modern Chinese (BA) course where you’ll study in Cardiff during years 1 and 4 and will spend years 2 and 3 in China.

After successfully completing your studies on our Chinese pathway, your Chinese proficiency will reach an advanced level which is equivalent to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This is an attribute crucial for anyone who wishes to live in China or Taiwan, or work for a Chinese or Taiwanese organisation.
