The Medicines Discovery Institute is a bridge between the basic science developed at Cardiff University, and the clinical research required to establish the safety and effectiveness of a new drug. Poorly treated illnesses place an enormous burden on society and the costs continue to increase. Better medicines can alleviate this burden – yet the path of drug discovery, from the laboratory bench to the bedside, is notoriously long and difficult.
