Visiting staff and students

Students, researchers, academics and staff from other higher education institutions can join our libraries using our dedicated membership schemes.

SCONUL Access

Staff, researchers, taught postgraduates and distance learners from participating higher education institutions are able to borrow under the SCONUL Access scheme.

Under the SCONUL Access scheme, you can join as a Cardiff University member, which means you are able to:

Full-time undergraduates from Cardiff Met, RWCMD and the University of South Wales

Full-time undergraduates from Cardiff Metropolitan University, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the University of South Wales can join our libraries under our reciprocal scheme. Under the reciprocal scheme, you can :

  • borrow up to two items at any one time from our 1-week, 2-week and 4-week loan collections
  • access the eduroam wireless service

You will need to email your home institution's library service for approval before applying for membership at Cardiff University libraries.

How to join

Please complete our online membership form to join and use our libraries. You also need to email the following to librarymembership@cardiff.ac.uk to complete your membership:

  • confirmation of your SCONUL Access approval (home institution, your name, expiry date and band must be visible) or confirmation email from your home institution (for full-time undergraduates from Cardiff institutions)
  • a scan or photo of your ID card or library card from your home institution
  • a passport-sized photo (for your Cardiff University library card)
