Education Fellowship Programmes
Our AdvanceHE-accredited Cardiff University Education Fellowship Programmes help staff develop their learning and teaching and gain recognition for their professional practice.
The Fellowship Programmes equip any staff members with a role in teaching/ supporting learning in the university with the skills that they need to become effective educators. The programmes are designed to be engaging, light-touch and practice-focused and have been co-developed by a wide range of staff and students to meet the needs of participants and the university.

Programmes
The Associate Fellowship Programme (7 workshops) is aimed at those whose practice enables them to evidence some Dimensions of the Professional Standards Framework. At Cardiff University this may include Graduate Tutors and Graduate Demonstrators, early-career researchers/Postdocs who undertake a fractional teaching role, Professional Services staff with teaching or learning support roles (these have included: digital education professionals, Student Futures staff, Libraries staff and Student Voice co-ordinators), and lab demonstrators and technicians.
The Fellowship Programme (8 workshops) is aimed at those whose practice with learners has breadth and depth, enabling them to evidence all Dimensions. Successful completion of the Fellowship Programme and the award of FHEA is a requirement of the three-year probation process for Grade 6 lecturers on Teaching and Research (T&R) or Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) career pathways. The Fellowship Programme is also available for more experienced staff from academic Schools, such as module leads, who have not previously taken up opportunities to gain a recognized qualification to teach, and for interested senior staff. Many Professional Services staff who are able to meet the Fellowship criteria have successfully gained recognition through the programme.
The Senior Fellowship Programme (7 workshops) is aimed at those whose comprehensive understanding and effective practice provides a basis from which they lead or influence those who teach and/or support high-quality learning. For Cardiff University, participants on the Senior Fellowship Programme are very diverse but tend to: be Programme Directors or academic/Professional Services staff leading programme development projects at scale; those with thematic leadership responsibilities within a School or department, for example, Senior Personal Tutors, or leaders of teaching staff in libraries or Student Futures; School Directors of Learning and Teaching; have significant mentoring roles; or Heads of Schools.
Structure
The programmes are structured via a series of compulsory thematic workshops, followed by submission of a portfolio, which supports participants to attain recognition as Associate Fellow, Fellow or Senior Fellow of Advance HE. Workshops run monthly for 6-8 months, with two flexible deadlines for the portfolio, before a final submission date approximately 8 months after the completion of workshops.
Eligibility
The Fellowships programmes are open to all staff and postgraduate students who are involved in teaching and/or learning support. They might be:
