Teaching innovation and support
We are a TEF silver institution with leading teachers who are driven by creativity and curiosity. We work to support staff to develop their own learning and teaching practice and the associated enhancement of the student experience.
We invest in education innovation and in celebrating teaching excellence, with 10 National Teaching Fellows, 4 Principal Fellows and 58 Senior Fellows.
Cardiff University Education Fellowships Programmes
The Fellowships programmes replaced the previous Academic Practice and Learning to Teach programmes in September 2021. The Fellowships programmes are open to all staff and postgraduate students who are involved in teaching and/or learning support.

Digital Education Framework
In 2020, we developed our Digital Education Framework to support our teaching staff in delivering a high-quality blended and online learning experience to our students.
We created a range of support resources to help our staff adjust to online and blended learning and our digital education team provides leadership and support for a range of digital education practices, projects, and initiatives across the University.
In 2021, LinkedIn Learning was also made available for free to all Cardiff University staff and students through a university-wide license.
Personal tutoring
Cardiff University’s Personal Tutoring Online Resource is designed to provide an accessible and effective guide for all new and existing Personal Tutors.
Created in collaboration with the Senior Personal Tutoring Network, Professional Services and the Student Community, the resource aims to offer Personal Tutors a range of general information and guidance to support the nuances of the role, including:
- establishing and maintaining professional boundaries
- effective communications tools and approaches
- personal Tutoring at a distance
- supporting students through effective signposting and referrals to relevant support services
- scenario-based case studies of the different challenges students face to help reflect and adapt your practice.
Learning and teaching training events
We offer a full programme of training events for all our staff, with some events open to external audiences. We host an annual Learning and Teaching conference, which is an opportunity for colleagues and students to share their experiences over the past year and to look ahead to the future of learning and teaching.
